I am informing you of some personal problems I am experiencing which affect this website. Last month, July 2025, and this month August, my laptop has had events when it would not turn on. I have taken it into a repair shop, and basically, the problem is with the battery. I live in Mexico City, so this complicates things as far as fixing it or getting a new one. So I am investigating buying a new battery, but my laptop is over 10 years old, and I just need a new laptop. The white letters on some keys have completely worn off.
These kinds of problems happen with older equipment. I make constant backups of both my laptop files and my websites, and burn them to 25 gigabyte and 100 gigabyte BluRay DVDs. I have approaching 80 of these BluRay DVDs in my archives. So I am not really worried about totally losing a lot or most of my files. Since I do redundancy, any one particular file may be on a dozen different backups. For those files on my websites, I may have 50 copies of that particular file spread out over many DVDs. But I am investigating buying another laptop with Windows 11. My present one has Windows 10, and I have an even older laptop with Windows 8 (about 18+ years old), which I pulled out these last few weeks to see if I could use it, and frankly, it is extremely slow. It also has serious battery problems.
I am also working with many PDFs, Mobi, EPUB, RTF, Esword, MySword, etc. file formats. To work with these files in Bible software, I have converted them to Microsoft Word and LibreOffice (OpenOffice) formats. I found, tried, and liked a program called DocFetcher, which can index the PDF, Docx, and OO formats, as well as Mobi, EPUB and RTF formats, etc., and I can search across everything for words or phrases and then read the passage in context which I find very helpful. (I just checked for all *.PDFs, and I have 317,709 not counting anything in DVD archives.) I am searching in my own archives these days as much as on the Internet, and I am both transforming entire works to theword format, and taking quotes to insert in theWord files on various subjects. The problem is that on my present laptop, it has 1 Core, 16GBs RAM, and 900 Gigabytes Hard Disk, it takes about 6 hours to index one folder (say 2 or 3 Gigabytes). It is basically unresponsive or extremely slow when indexing, so I cannot use the laptop for anything else. I have probably 50+ Document folders divided by topic. So when I index these files, the laptop maxes out on that task. 100% CPU usage, 100% Ram usage, and the files produced in doing the index (which is what I search on afterward) are very large, meaning I need a lot of hard disk space. So if I am getting a newer laptop this fall, I want at least a 3 Core or 5 Core CPU, and more RAM and Disk space. Right now, I have the little under 1 Terabyte on my laptop, and 6 external hard disks, some with 2 Terabytes. I am constantly transferring to and from these external hard drives. To find things, my indexing utility Everything takes these disks into its search. All taking more and more time.
So to sum up, please pray that I both get my present Laptop working with a new battery, and that I can transition this fall into a new laptop. I don’t yet have firm quotes on machines that I want nor the battery, but I am guessing that the battery will run me around $100 to $200 US dollars, which is not bad. The laptops I am looking at (without extra RAM nor with larger hard drives, which all seem to be below 500 gigabytes and I need at least 2 terabytes) are running around $300 US dollars here. I am estimating that what I want will run around $500 to $800 US dollars.

If nobody wants to respond to this need, I will continue to take money out of our household expenses to pay for these things over time. Maybe adding more modules will be slower, though. This year, 2025, we have received no donations that I remember towards these websites and Internet ministries. Our missionary support is the same as it has been for the last 15 years, hovering at 50%. We will make it. And as God allows, I want to keep the ministry of my websites alive and on the Internet (and always free). A lot of people are viewing these sites.
As of this writing, August 20, 2025, I have 4,185 theWord modules for free download on twmodules.com. I had to rebuild the website last year, and by Christmas 2024, I had it back up, making it from scratch, and so the statistics are from about November or December, but there has been a total global download of theWord files of 2,597,582 twm files. On the sister site, www.theword-commentary-modules.com there have been 385,476 downloads of Bible Commentaries in theWord format. Additionally, I have several more sites with theWord files. So we are pressing towards or have passed 3 million downloads. Somebody is downloading a lot of files. But nobody is donating. I am paying for all of this out of my grocery money.
